We've been taking our rescue pup to Blue Dog for boarding since the fall of 2020. It's always a great experience - scheduling and adjusting is easy, Bella gets lots of attention and all of her food and treats, and the staff is lovely.
Our beagle Stella (3.5 years old) absolutely loves blue dog boarding! Shes comfortable there and walks in like she owns the place everytime we drop her off! It's so great to have a place to take her if we're going to be gone a few extra hours on the weekend or head out of town and are always accommodating! My favorite part is when I dtop her off Shea greeted "hey Stella" but the staff .... They are pretty great! I also have her groomed there and she smells great, is soft and fluffy and her nails are always cut short the way we like them! Being Militay, we wish there was there place like Blue Dog Boarding at every duty station!!
We've taken our Yellow Lab, Lulu, to BDBD a few times now. We've been very pleased and Lulu seems to have a great time playing with all the other dogs! We will definitely use them for our boarding needs in the future. Lulu can't wait for the pool to open!
We are very pleased to have found BDBD for our 13-year old "puppy" (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel). She is a companion dog, accustomed to spending her days with 1-2 indulgent humans, except for walks and playtime when she sometimes sees other people's pets. She also has some age-related medical conditions, receives some daily medication, and needs light monitoring of her conditions. After talking with Janet (owner) and Mickie (staff), we put our "Maggie" in their care for a weekend when we were away. They were wonderful, attentive, and patient with our questions and initial need for assurances. At Janet's suggestion, Maggie stayed primarily in what they call a "junior suite" so that she could have a calm environment for her frequent naps and the presence of just one or two similarly "elder" dogs. We requested two additional playtimes with staff each day. When we picked her up she was just fine--and when we returned for another visit later in the month she seemed happy to return. Our personal interactions with all staff members have been very positive and we are relieved to have found a place we can trust to take care of our "second child" when we are away.

We have been taking our dog there for about 3 years now. They were in Rockville when we started taking her, it was close and convenient and everyone loved her there. She gets so excited when I tell her she is going to "puppy school". Then they moved to Kensington, and we couldn't not take her, so I drove from Rockville to Kensington and back for work. Now we live in Gaithersburg, and still drive to Kensington to take her twice a week. She has so many friends there, and the staff is amazing. She boards there when we go away and have never had a problem. They email back pretty quickly if you want to check up on your dog, or just watch the cameras of course. I am so glad we found this place!
Luke, my almost 9 year old Lhasa Apso Mix, has been feeling like a young pup again after his wonderful “Spa Day” at Blue Dog! Luke even asked me to write a review! Both Luke and I had such a great experience at Blue Dog! I was thrilled with his cut (I told the groomer, Gerardo, what I wanted and he did everything perfectly!). The silky smoothness of Luke's coat and the lovely aroma of the shampoo Blue Dog uses just added to my boy's charm!
Also, Before I even completed my profile on the website, RJ, the manager at Blue Dog, called me (keep in mind it was later afternoon on a Friday!) and was absolutely fantastic. He answered all my questions, suggested the best services at the price point I was looking for, and was just a delight to talk to.
On behalf of me and Luke, Thank you Janet, RJ, Gerardo, and the entire staff at Blue Dog!
We'll see you very soon!
Blue Dog now has "suites" where your dog can have a bit more room and be away from the big group. Great for timid or defensive dogs, plus there's room for two. They board both my dog AND my CAT in a suite, where they share the child size bed. There's room for their own beds, food, water, litter box, some play. They even curtained off the sides so other dogs would antagonize my cat (or so my cat wouldn't tear their eyes out through the cage 🙂 ). They also walk my cat in her stroller when they walk my dog.
My dog also has parttime play in the daycare when boarding and attends daycare occassionally for fun. She is timid (and, therefore, defensive with other dogs); the staff is attentive to her needs, making sure she's with calm dogs and has a place to retreat to if overwhelmed.
Give Blue Dog a try, and communicate with the staff. Boarding and daycare staff aren't mind readers wherever you go, and most aren't in the business of retail sales for the sake of retail sales. Good focus on the care of the animals!
Our high energy lab puppy loves going there for boarding, so we don't feel guilty going on vacations without her. The staff is friendly, the house food is healthy, and the beach/pool area is great for water dogs like ours. The webcam and online scheduling are awesome too. The prices are kind of high, but their 6am-9pm hours 7 days a week make it a little cheaper (and easy to remember).

I'm fortunate to work in the area and fortunate that my 14 year old Husky Mix "Buddy" loves going to Blue Dog Boarding. He prefers to hang out in "elementary school" with the little guys, as it's less stressful. I think it's great how much room the dogs have to play and move around without being confined. The staff are great and "SnowBall" is always there to welcome Buddy with a few sniffs. I also love the ability to view the dogs on webcam when I'm traveling and seeing what the old guy is up to. Actually he's been so active when at Blue Dog that he usually comes home and crashes for 2-3 days to recover...another plus for dad! A great place for your dog.
This place is absolutely fantastic, we use it every time we go on vacation. Our dog is adopted and has some quirks, but they have always been very accommodating and understanding. He has some abandonment issues, so we were worried the first time we used this place, but when we picked him up he was so happy and tired from playing with other dogs all day. Each time we drop him off, he gets excited and runs up to the employees happy to see them and runs inside to play with the other dogs. so we are very happy with this place.
I am Margaret Beveridge, Nicky's mother-in-law, Jake's grandmother.I don't have a lot of interaction with you, but what I have had, has been wonderful.
When Jake was young and very frisky ( he still is, I suppose) the young man who dropped him off at my house every time made sure that Jake was indoors and settled comfortably upstairs before he left. That was so considerate of him, and I was very appreciative.
Every time I have come with other family members to pick Jake up, the staff have been courteous and considerate and Jake has been happy and acting as though he'd be just as happy to stay with you!
You do a great job
Thank you
Margaret Beveridge
Janet and her team at Blue Dog are amazing! They get to know and love each and every dog while providing a clean and safe environment. My Westie is always happy to see her friends at daycare. I especially like being able to check on my dog using the webcam when I am away. You will not be disappointed!
Great establishment! They take great care of all the dogs. You can really tell that they care and it shows. The staff is TOP NOTCH! They go the extra mile at every turn. Anytime we need anything specific for our dog, they are happy to accommodate. I would recommend Blue Dog Boarding to everyone!!
We've been using Blue Dog Boarding and Daycare for the past 5 years and have been very happy with them. They have a well-run facility and professional staff. We have a bichon-poodle who needs frequent grooming. Blue Dog does a great job with her; she looks beautiful and unharmed whenever we pick her up. She has skin allergies too and they are mindful of that and use hypoallergenic shampoos. Her skin is never irritated with them. We used a mobile grooming service once and our dog developed horrible allergy from their shampoo and required multiple vet visits and medication to fix the problem. After that bad experience, we decided to stick with Blue Dog and our dog's doing well since. We have also boarded our dog with them many times, when we vacation. Our dog gets to roam and hang-out with dogs her size and we get to watch her on Webcam! She can stay indoors or go out to the "beach" where there is sand and a doggie pool! No place is like home, but I know that with Blue Dog, my dog is safe and well-cared for.
I have had my dogs board here and have been pleased. My dogs come home tired and happy. I will keep on using them.
I have a vizsla who requires a lot of exercise, and it is very helpful that he is able to play with other dogs all day and comes home tired. It seems that the staff at Blue Dog genuinely like what they are doing--they remembered my dog's name after the first visit and separate dogs based on age, size, and temperament. My dog always seems excited to go, so I think its a good sign he enjoys it. Also, there are doggie cameras so you can keep an eye on your dog if you want during the day. That certainly helps with the peace of mind.
I will agree with some previous reviews that it is very loud and can be disconcerting to hear all the barking of the dogs when you first pull up, but I think that is to be expected with so many dogs in one area. Certainly none of them have looked like they are in distress when I have been there. One thing I do wish is that there was grassy areas for the dogs to run. It's nice that they have an outdoor area for the dogs, but it is all concrete.
All things considered, I trust sending my dog here while I am at work during the day and will certainly post if something comes up I find concerning!
I have to say, finding this place was a blessing in disguise.
My boyfriend has a big girl named Luci. I love her like she is my own. He took a job overseas for three months and I needed to find somewhere to keep her during the day because I wasn't able to be with her during the day like he was. I came across this place after careful review of similar dog camps in the area. I couldn't be more happy with my decision.
The first day I dropped Luci off at camp, I started balling crying. I opened up to the staff about my boyfriend leaving, and Luci being a little funky with him being gone. She wasn't acting herself. She was acting a little sad and down. The entire process was difficult to adjust to. The staff was always there for me (RJ in particular) and understanding of me and Luci and what we were going through. The staff was super friendly and attentive to Luci (as well as all the other dogs) They open really early and stay open late. They would play with Luci and all the other dogs. They made sure they were fed, and exercised. They also get nap time and breaks during the day to recuperate. I love the fact that this place has video cameras that you can watch all day online. When I first started at Blue Dog, I would call the day care every few hours to check in on Luci. After a while, I became so comfortable that I stopped calling. I would only call when I was running late from work. Luci would be so exhausted from playing all day that she would pass out on the car ride home and only wake up to go inside and fall asleep again. Towards the end, she actually didn't even want to get in the car and leave because she was having so much fun at the camp.
I had to board Luci overnight one night. This went very well. I packed all of her food and she stayed there for one night (Saturday-Sunday). She seemed completely normally and happy when I picked her up. The beds are clean and look like they are well kept with. I noticed that some people board their dogs for long visits (weeks at a time) and they always seemed attended to.
Overall, I give this place a 5 out of 5 because they helped me through a really hard time. And the most important one involved, Luci, was completely happy with all the staff and enjoyed every minute of it. I am really glad to know I have a reliable place to go to if I ever need day care or boarding again.
I have been taking my dog, Lucca, to Blue Dog for about a year. The staff have been great. Everyone is kind and responsive. I don't worry about Lucca while she is there because I know she is being cared for by people who care about her and know how to handle a group of dogs. It is so nice to be able to take Lucca to a place where she can run around all day and interact with other dogs, get social interaction and exercise. The pick up service is a great luxury that I didn't think I would ever use but there have been occasions where it has been extremely convenient. As I write this review, Lucca is sound asleep after a full day of seeing her canine friends and having a bath to boot. Thank you.
I've been taking my dog here regularly (2-3x a week) for daycare for 2 years--since she was a puppy. Or maybe I should say she's been taking me. She loves this place. She hops out of the car tail wagging and goes straight to the front door. And then she hardly gives me a second glance when a staff member leads her to the play area.
I love this place because I don't have to worry when I'm at work or away for the day. I know my dog is playing or relaxing or just enjoying time with a pack. And I know that when I pick her up and take her home all she is going to to do is sleep. That means I can go out, run errands, or just have a night off from dog walking duties. It's great.
I really like the facility because it has an outside play/bathroom area and a large indoor space--enough to have separate play areas for large and small dogs. They also have the web cams and grooming on site. Their grooming w/ daycare package is a great deal.
I have really come to rely and trust the owners and staff. They are friendly and accommodating and they love dogs. So, they know that my dog's welfare is my biggest concern. My dog has always been returned to me in good spirits with no injuries or issues. And she has always wanted to go back for more.
The negative review below strikes me as kind of shady. I don't have an agenda beyond making sure my dog is in a clean, safe, secure place to play and hang out for the day. For me, that place is Blue Dog. I highly recommend trying it out. It works for me because it's convenient to my home and work, the staff is attentive and accommodating, there is an outside area (my dog loves being outside), and the prices are very competitive.

I just starting taking my dog there. The staff are very pleasant and do a fantastic job! I highly recommend this place to anyone that needs to board their dog.
